2023 GMC Canyon Release Date

The official reveal of the 2023 GMC Canyon was August 11th, 2022, and the official release date is in early 2023. Fleet production is anticipated to begin on January 25th, 2023, at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri. You can expect the next-gen 2023 GMC Canyon to go on sale in early 2023 and the AT4X model will be available by Spring 2023.

2023 GMC Canyon Price & Trim Levels

The starting price for the 2023 GMC Canyon is $36,900 MSRP due to its redesigned exterior as well as interior, technology, and capability upgrades. This is a near $3,000 increase from the base 2022 GMC Canyon. The upcoming lineup will feature previous trim levels including Elevation Standard, Elevation, AT4, Denali, and the debut of the all-new AT4X trim level, which offers the exclusive First Edition Package. Starting prices will range from $36,900 to $55,500 based on trim level but could go higher depending on packages and customizations.

2023 GMC Canyon Elevation

You can expect significant changes to the exterior and interior in comparison to the 2022 Elevation, even though both were designed to make a statement on the road. Highlighted features include 18" black painted aluminum wheels, 369 lb.-ft. of torque Duramax 2.8L turbo-diesel engine, LED fog lamps, 308 HP 3.8L V6 engine, and advanced infotainment and connectivity. The Canyon Extended Cab Elevation Standard trim comes with a 74" long bed in 2WD and 4WD, whereas the Canyon Extended Cab Elevation trim comes with a 74" bed in 2WD.

The 2022 Elevation also offers the Elevation Premium Package (only available on the Elevation trim), which includes jet black front leather-appointed seating with comfort features, heated driver and front passenger seats, a heated steering wheel, and a driver power lumbar control seat adjuster. The starting price for the 2023 GMC Canyon Elevation is $36,900 MSRP.

There won't be significant changes from the 2022 AT4, which features 31" Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac Tires, an off-road suspension package with advanced hill descent control, cutting-edge infotainment and connectivity capabilities, a 308 HP 3.6L V6 engine, premium leather-appointed front seats (an AT4-exclusive) with jet black and Kalahari accents, and more.

The AT4 also features an Off-Road Performance Package, which comes with a suspension leveling kit, performance front and mid skid plates, off-road rocket panel protectors, 17" glass black wheels, gloss black performance exhaust tips, carbon black AT4 logos, and a GMC spray-in bedliner. The starting price for the AT4 is $43,900 MSRP.

GMC's exclusive debut of the AT4X has customers who have a passion for off-road adventuring raving. The Canyon AT4X is unparalleled in off-road performance with undoubted capability and uncompromising refinements. This was first introduced on the 2022 GMC Sierra but has revolutionized what off-road experiences should be. Its exterior look will feature a chunky front bumper with a large bull bar rising in front of the grille. The headlights will be split into 2 pieces with the rectangular section containing LED daytime running lights and lower trapezoidal sections with main headlights. The front grille will be blacked out and auxiliary fog lights will sit in the middle of the front bumper. The 2023 AT4X will ride on all-terrain tires. The starting price for the 2023 Canyon AT4X is $55,500 MSRP.

The 2023 GMC Canyon Denali's exterior will feature 20-inch wheels, a polished exhaust tip and a larger, revised grille. The Canyon Denali's engine will come heavily revised along with a suspected 2.7L inline-four turbo unit as the sole form of propulsion. This and additional premium trim levels will come with dual climate control, heated and ventilated seats, and a new console-mounted shifter. There is speculation the interior will have wood-inlaid door handles for trim levels Denali and above. The starting price for the 2023 Canyon Denali is $51,000 MSRP.

The GMC Canyon's interior design has been completely overhauled with a modernized cabin look and feel with new seats, new switchgear, a new shifter, push-button start, a new center stack with an upgraded infotainment system, and many more exciting upgrades. The new infotainment system will run Google Automotive with embedded connections via OnStar 4G LTE including traffic and weather updates, point of interest search, and navigational features. It's rumored that there will be a new steering wheel with a new set of buttons on the nine and three o'clock arms, making it more accessible and less distracting. Interior colors are rumored to have a black and gray appearance, but with wood finishings for the upgraded Denali trim. It is expected that the GMC Canyon will offer the following cab and bed configurations, which will seat up to 5 passengers:

  • Crew Cab, Short Box
  • Crew Cab, Long Box

2023 GMC Canyon Exterior Colors & Dimensions

The exterior dimensions of the 2023 GMC Canyon haven't been released yet, but they should be similar to the 2022 model. There could be slight changes in the size due to the exterior redesign changes and we will update this section once GMC releases the official details. The exterior colors of the 2023 Canyon have not been confirmed, but it should offer at least the following options:

2023 GMC Canyon Engine Options & Horsepower Specs

The GMC Canyon features a singular, standard powertrain option, which is the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine. This includes the base 2.7L Turbo tune with 237 horsepower and 259 lb.-ft. of torque, the 2.7L Turbo Plus, rated at 310 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque, and the 2.7L Turbo High-Output, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft. of torque. The only transmission that will be available is the updated 8-speed automatic transmission. The Canyon can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in roughly 6.9 seconds, which is favorable for a midsize truck.

The expected towing capacity for the 2023 GMC Canyon is 7,700 pounds and should have a payload rating of up to 2,068 pounds.

2023 GMC Canyon Redesign - Changes & Updates from 2022

The upcoming Canyon is getting a reimagined exterior look and a commanding appearance that is generating buzz. The 2023 Canyon will get an updated version of General Motors's GMT-31XX body-on-frame architectural design but will be wrapped in a larger and more angular body with more bumper clearance. This new exterior will present a hefty look for an off-road-ready experience. Additionally, this model will offer a 6-function MultiPro tailgate on the Sierra 1500 and Heavy-Duty trim levels.

2023 GMC Canyon Safety Ratings & Equipment

While there are no NHTSA/IIHS safety ratings for the 2023 GMC Canyon yet, the 2022 GMC Canyon received a 4 out of 5-star overall ranking for both driver and passenger sides. It received a 5 out of 5 overall side star rating and 3 out of 5 rollover star rating. With an upgraded exterior comes with enhanced safety features, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Zone Alert, etc. One of the latest and greatest safety features is the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver-assistance feature, which permits hands-free operation of the vehicle. Super Cruise technology works hand in hand with Adaptive Cruise Control, which controls acceleration and braking while utilizes real-time cameras, sensors, GPS, and LiDAR map data to detect curves. In addition, a rearview camera and a Teen Driver system come standard with the 2023 GMC Canyon.
